Is My Harry Potter™ Wallpaper Official? How to Tell
Search for Harry Potter™ wallpaper and you will find three quite different things sold side by side: licensed murals from the studio that designed the films' printed props, licensed peel-and-stick paper from a different manufacturer, and unlicensed prints that simply borrow the imagery. All three look similar in a thumbnail. They are not the same product, and only two of them are official.

What "officially licensed" actually means
Harry Potter is a Warner Bros. property. Any wallpaper carrying its imagery legally requires a licence from Warner Bros., granted to a named manufacturer for a named product category. Licensing is granted per product type, which is why a licensed peel-and-stick range and a licensed paste-the-wall range can exist at the same time from different makers, both entirely legitimate.
"Officially licensed" is therefore a factual, checkable claim about the manufacturer — not a quality rating and not a claim of exclusivity. Anyone can stock a licensed product. What matters when you are buying is whether the maker is licensed, and which physical product you are actually receiving.
Who MinaLima are
MinaLima is the graphic design studio founded by Miraphora Mina and Eduardo Lima, the designers responsible for the printed graphics in the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts films — the newspapers, the letters, the packaging, the maps. The props you remember from the films are their work.
Their wallpaper collection reproduces those same graphic designs. That is the distinction worth understanding: a MinaLima design is not an illustration inspired by the films, it is the film artwork itself, drawn from the original studio's own archive.
The four designs we stock
Our range is four MinaLima designs, each at $340 per roll:
- The Black Family Tapestry — the family tree from Grimmauld Place, as seen in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.
- The Marauder's Map — the shifting corridors and passageways, from Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.
- The Hogwarts Library — over thirty book covers from across the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts films.
- The Daily Prophet — twelve front pages of the wizarding world's newspaper.
MinaLima's wider collection is larger than four. We do not stock all of it, and other retailers carry designs we don't. If you have seen a MinaLima design elsewhere that isn't on this list, it is very likely genuine — it simply isn't one we hold.
What you actually receive
These are standard rolls, not custom-printed panels:
- Roll size: 10 m long × 0.5 m wide
- Material: premium non-woven, 147 gsm
- Hanging system: paste-the-wall — the paste goes onto the wall and the dry paper is hung onto it
Because they are rolls rather than made-to-measure panels, you work out quantity the ordinary way: measure your wall and calculate how many drops you need. Our roll calculator will do the arithmetic for you.
Paste-the-wall, not peel and stick
MinaLima produce this range as non-woven paste-the-wall only. There is no peel-and-stick version of these four designs, from us or from anyone else — if you find one advertised as such, it is not this product.
Officially licensed Harry Potter peel-and-stick wallpaper does exist, made by RoomMates under their own Warner Bros. licence. It is a different manufacturer, a different material and a different design set — so if you have seen removable Harry Potter paper advertised, it is not necessarily counterfeit. It simply is not the MinaLima range, and we do not stock it.
How to check before you buy, anywhere
Four questions that settle it quickly, whoever you are buying from:
- Is the design studio or manufacturer named? Licensed products name theirs — MinaLima, RoomMates. Unlicensed listings tend to describe the imagery without naming who made it.
- Are the material and dimensions stated? A real wallcovering listing gives you substrate, weight, roll or panel size. Vagueness here usually means a print-on-demand seller.
- Does the description cite the source? Genuine MinaLima designs can point to the specific film and the specific prop, because that is where the artwork comes from.
- Can you order a physical sample? Sellers of licensed stock hold the stock, so they can send you a piece of it.
See it before you commit
We sell an A4 sample of each design — 29.7 × 21 cm, $10 each, plus $5 postage within Australia. It is a piece of the actual wallpaper, so you can judge the print quality, the paper weight and how the colours sit in your own light before spending $340 on a roll.
