Wallpaper vs Wall Mural — What's the Difference?
We sell both, and people often aren't sure which they need. Here's the difference in plain terms.
Repeat wallpaper (sold in rolls)
This is the classic kind. The design repeats over and over — florals, stripes, geometrics, textures. You buy it in rolls and hang strip after strip, lining up the pattern as you go.
Best for:
- Covering a whole room, or several walls
- An all-over pattern or texture
- Spaces where you might want to patch or extend later
Think of it like: tiles of the same design, repeating across the wall.
Wall murals (sold as panels)
A mural is one large image printed across several panels that you hang side by side — a forest scene, a map, an oversized botanical, a piece of artwork. It's made for one specific wall and isn't designed to repeat.
Best for:
- A single feature wall
- A statement image or scene
- A "wow" moment behind a bed, sofa, or desk
Think of it like: a giant photo or painting, split into strips for hanging.
The key practical differences
| Repeat Wallpaper | Wall Mural | |
|---|---|---|
| Sold as | Rolls | Panels, made to your wall |
| Design | Repeats | One single image |
| Best for | Whole rooms | One feature wall |
| Measuring | Width + height → rolls | Your exact wall size matters |
| Leftover paper | Useful for repairs | Made-to-fit, little spare |
How to choose
- Want a pattern across a whole room? → Repeat wallpaper.
- Want one big striking image on one wall? → Wall mural.
Because a mural is printed to suit your wall, accurate measurements matter even more — see How to Measure for Wallpaper, and How to Hang a Wall Mural for the hanging method.
