Blue Wallpaper

How to use blue wallpaper

Navy has become the dark neutral of choice for studies, dining rooms and hallways, and it flatters timber and brass. Powder blue and duck egg do the opposite job in bedrooms and nurseries, where they read as calm rather than cold. Blue cools a room, so in a south-facing space with little direct sun warm it with a timber floor, a cream trim or a rust cushion. Navy-and-white is the Hamptons formula and it works in any coastal house; a blue-and-white stripe is the quietest way to get it.

Where to start

Of the designs on this page, the most ordered over the last twelve months, in any colourway, were La Palma by Catherine Martin, Sandberg's Gustav, Lo, Rand, Magnus and Wilma; the most sampled were La Palma, Argile, Cass Deller's Blue Tropics and Hiding Hares. Blue by style: coastal and nautical, stripes, sky and clouds and nursery. Neighbouring colours: teal and green.

Can I get a sample first?

Yes. Samples are A$10 each plus A$5 postage within Australia, A$18 to New Zealand and A$35 elsewhere, sent by letter mail and usually with you within a week. Colour is the one thing a screen cannot settle, so we recommend it.
