Botanical Wallpaper

Botanical wallpaper is the heart of the Wallpaper Trader range: 362 designs gathering every leaf, bloom, tree and jungle we stock, from Sandberg's hand-drawn Swedish meadows and Rebel Walls' forest murals to Catherine Martin's palms and Casamance's textured foliage. Two hundred are sold by the roll from $145 and the rest are murals made to measure and priced by the square metre from $81. Every design is available as a $10 A4 sample, with $5 postage within Australia.

Buying guide and questions we are asked

How to choose a botanical wallpaper

Decide first whether you want flowers, foliage or a scene. Florals bring colour and a softer, more traditional mood; leaf and fern designs are calmer and easier to pair with furniture; a forest or jungle mural turns one wall into a view. Then look at the ground colour and the density of the print. A sparse design on a pale ground keeps a small room light; a dense, dark-ground print makes a dining room or powder room feel enclosed and expensive. Botanicals are the easiest way to bring green into a room without painting it, because the pattern carries the colour for you.

What we stock and how it is sold

Sandberg accounts for nearly half the collection: non-woven, paste-the-wall rolls 53 cm wide and 10.05 m long, plus made-to-measure murals. Rebel Walls designs are murals printed to your wall size. Casamance and Romo botanicals tend to be larger in scale and richer in texture, and Långelid/von Brömssen's storybook botanicals are printed in Ulricehamn, the Swedish town where Sandberg began. Roll size, repeat and match are under Product Details on each product, and rolls are printed to order, so allow three to four weeks.

The designs Australians order most

La Palma by Catherine Martin was the most ordered design in the whole store over the last twelve months, and it is both the most ordered and the most sampled botanical. Behind it come Lo and Wilma from Sandberg, Royal Peacock by Catherine Martin, and Sandberg's jungle print Moa. For the La Palma look at a lower price, the Sandberg palms and the Rebel Walls tropical murals are where to start.

Before you order

Use the roll calculator with the repeat from the product page, order the sample, and look at it against your floor and your trim, because greens shift more than any other colour between screen and wall. Narrower searches: floral, forest and woodland, tropical and jungle, animals and birds, or by colour in green wallpaper.

Questions we are asked about botanical wallpaper

What is the difference between botanical and floral wallpaper?

Floral designs are built around flowers; botanical is the wider family and includes leaves, ferns, trees, palms and whole garden or jungle scenes. Every floral here is also in the botanical collection, but not the other way round.

Does botanical wallpaper suit a small room?

Yes, if you choose by ground and density rather than by motif: a pale ground with space between the leaves keeps the room light, and a single papered wall behind the bed or sofa gives the effect without closing the room in.

Can I use it in a bathroom?

Some brands advise against steamy bathrooms, and every paper wants a dry, sealed wall. Read our guide to wallpaper in bathrooms and kitchens and check the product page before you buy.

Can I get a sample first?

Yes. A4 samples are A$10 each plus A$5 postage within Australia, A$18 to New Zealand and A$35 elsewhere, sent by letter mail and usually with you within a week.
