Wall Murals

A wall mural turns one wall into a single image, and it is the quickest transformation in decorating. Wallpaper Trader stocks 209 murals, 134 from Rebel Walls and 72 from Sandberg, running from misty Scandinavian forests and cloudscapes to vintage landscapes, painted plasters and playful designs for children's rooms. Almost every one is printed to your wall size and priced by the square metre, from $81: enter the width and height of the wall on the product page and the quantity and price are calculated for you. Every design is available as a $10 A4 sample, with $5 postage within Australia.

Buying guide and questions we are asked

How to choose a wall mural

Choose the wall first. A mural needs to be seen whole, so it wants the wall you face when you enter the room or lie in bed, without a wardrobe or a large painting in front of it. Then choose scale: a scenic mural with a horizon, a forest, a coastline, works at any size because you simply see more or less of the scene, while a mural with a single large motif needs a wall wide enough to show it. Colour last: soft, low-contrast murals, clouds, washes and pale forests, make a bedroom calmer; dark forests and dramatic skies make a dining room or study feel enclosed and rich. Our guide to wallpaper versus wall murals explains when a repeating pattern is the better choice.

How murals are sold and hung

You order by the square metre. Type the wall's width and height into the product page and the mural is printed to that size and delivered in strips that hang in order, paste-the-wall, like a non-woven wallpaper. Because it is printed to order, allow three to four weeks for delivery within Australia, or choose express. Rebel Walls advises against hanging its murals in bathrooms, on textured walls or on ceilings. Hanging a mural is easier with two people; our guide to hanging a wall mural covers the order of the strips, or you can book an installer.

Where to start

The murals sampled from this collection over the last year were the ones with a scene: Sandberg's Forest Toile, Morangen and Marieberg, and Rebel Walls' Opulence. Browse by subject in forest and woodland, sky and clouds, scenic landscapes, or by brand in Rebel Walls and Sandberg. The officially licensed Harry Potter™ murals by MinaLima are sold by the roll rather than by the square metre and have their own collection.

Questions we are asked about wall murals

What is the difference between a mural and wallpaper?

Wallpaper repeats a pattern along the roll, so any number of rolls make one continuous design. A mural is a single picture printed to the size of your wall, with no repeat, so it is ordered by the square metre and cut for that wall only.

Can a mural be made for any wall size?

Within the design's limits, yes: the product page accepts your wall's width and height and prices it. Very tall or very wide walls may show more of the scene or a slight crop, and we are happy to check a design against an unusual wall before you order. Email hello@wallpapertrader.com with the measurements.

Can I get a sample first?

Yes. An A4 sample shows the print quality, the surface and the colour, though not the whole picture. Samples are A$10 each plus A$5 postage within Australia, A$18 to New Zealand and A$35 elsewhere.

How long does delivery take?

Delivery within Australia is $50 and most orders arrive within three to four weeks, because many designer papers are printed to order overseas. Express delivery is $150 and takes around ten business days. Shipping outside Australia is calculated at checkout.
