Eighteen designs that borrow the look of woven cloth: plain linen weaves, slubbed and irregular ones, and a few that take their texture from jute, straw and wild silk. Texture instead of pattern, in warm neutrals and muted colour.
Buying guide and questions we are asked
The brands. Ten are by Casamance, made in Italy. Four are by Romo, made in England. Three are by Eijffinger, and one is Linne by Sandberg.
The facts
- Roll size: 10 to 10.1 metres long, and 53 to 70 cm wide, depending on the design.
- Price: $145 to $600 a roll. Linne by Sandberg is the most affordable at $145; the Casamance plains sit between $460 and $550.
- Pattern repeat: many are plains with no repeat. Where there is one it runs 53 to 83 cm.
- Hanging: the Casamance designs are paste-the-wall. Romo's linens are paste-the-paper, so the paste goes on the paper, not the wall. Worth knowing before you start.
- What they are made of: Casamance list most of theirs as non-woven backed vinyl, with Filin an uncoated non-woven. Romo list Neo Linen as non-woven backed vinyl, Inez as uncoated non-woven, and Mendel and Edie as vinyl. Sandberg list Linne as paper with a wipeable surface.
- Colour range: Casamance offer Diola in 24 colours. Romo offer Neo Linen in 14, Inez in 9 and Edie in 8.
