Black & White Wallpaper
Black and white wallpaper is the safest bold choice there is: maximum graphic impact and no colour to clash with, which is why it goes with every sofa you will ever own. This is a curated collection of 16 two-tone designs rather than everything we sell in black or in white: line-drawn botanicals and toile scenes from Abigail Edwards and Sandberg, Rebel Walls murals, and the Daily Prophet newspaper mural from the Harry Potter™ range. Five are sold by the roll from $300 and the rest are murals priced by the square metre from $90. Every design is available as an A4 sample, posted worldwide.
Buying guide and questions we are asked
How to choose a black and white wallpaper
The thing to check in person is the ground. White ranges from bright snow to warm ivory, and it changes how the design sits against your trim and your ceiling paint; a sample settles it in thirty seconds. Then decide how much black: a fine line drawing on white keeps a small room light and reads as texture from a distance, while a dense or inky design makes hallways, powder rooms and studies feel deliberate. Black and white is also the easiest wallpaper to decorate around, because any accent colour in the room becomes the point.
Where to start
Abigail Edwards' hand-drawn Oak Trees, Seashells and Sea Scape are the quiet end of the collection; the Sandberg designs and Rebel Walls murals carry more contrast; and the Daily Prophet mural, the most sampled design here, is the one for a reader's room. For black and white with a stripe, see stripes; for everything we sell in either colour, black wallpaper, white wallpaper and grey wallpaper are the full lists.
What we stock and how it is sold
Rolled designs list width, length, repeat and match under Product Details. Abigail Edwards rolls are 52 cm wide and printed to order in the United Kingdom; Sandberg rolls are 53 cm wide and 10.05 m long. Murals are printed to your wall size and priced by the square metre. Allow three to four weeks for delivery within Australia; express is available.
Before you order
Order the sample and check the white against your skirting and ceiling. Measure and use the roll calculator. If you are after a monochrome scheme with a little more warmth, calm and gentle and textured and grasscloth hold the greys and stones.
Questions we are asked about black and white wallpaper
Does black and white wallpaper make a room look smaller?
Only the dense, black-heavy designs do, and only when they cover every wall. A line drawing on a white ground does the opposite. Paper one wall and keep the others pale if the room is small.
Is it good for a powder room?
Powder rooms are where black and white shines, because there is no colour to fight the tiles. Check ventilation and the product page, and read wallpaper in bathrooms and kitchens.
Can I get a sample first?
Yes. A4 samples are A$10 each plus A$5 postage within Australia, A$18 to New Zealand and A$35 elsewhere, sent by letter mail and usually with you within a week.
