How to use purple wallpaper
Lilac and lavender are bedroom colours, soft in morning light and restful at night, and they pair with grey, white and pale timber. Plum and aubergine are for evening rooms, a dining room or a snug, where they read as warm and enveloping rather than dark. Purple and green are opposites on the colour wheel, so a mauve wall makes plants and green fabric look brighter. Most of this page is Emma Hayes' painted washes and Casamance textures, which is the gentlest way into the colour.
