Your Wallpaper Shortlist

Choosing from hundreds of wallpapers can quickly become overwhelming. Tell us a little about your room and what you’re drawn to. We’ll select three wallpapers genuinely worth sampling: one comfortable choice, one with more character and one braver possibility.

This is a complimentary service we’re currently testing with 20 Wallpaper Trader customers.

It takes about three minutes. Most questions are a single tap, and there is a “not sure” option on every one of them — not knowing yet is a perfectly good answer, and it is often why people write to us in the first place.

1. The room

Where are you considering using wallpaper?

Width and height in metres is ideal. A rough guess is genuinely fine — it lets us tell you how many rolls you’d need and what that comes to, rather than just a price per roll.

Which way does the room face?

South-facing rooms stay cooler and dimmer here; north-facing get the sun. It changes which colours will look right on your wall rather than on a screen.

Is the wall close to a stove, sink, shower or bath?

Steam and splashes rule some papers out, so it is worth knowing before we recommend one.

2. What you’re drawn to

Paste a link from anywhere, name a design or a brand, or describe something you saw once. If nothing has grabbed you yet, write “nothing yet” — that tells us plenty too.

How big should the pattern be?

Separate from how bold you feel. A small print can be brightly coloured; a large one can be very quiet.

A mood, a style name, the era of the house, how you use the room, anything at all. Whatever comes to mind is the right answer.

Furniture, flooring, cabinetry, curtains, metals. Tell us which of it is staying put.

3. Practicalities

Roughly what were you expecting to spend, per roll?

Our range runs from about $80 to over $800 a roll, so this saves us sending you three you would never buy. There is no wrong answer and we won’t push you upwards.
